Week#1 Discussion Questions


  • Why are you here? (enrolled in the TESOL program)
  • What kind of language teaching have you done? (if any)
  • How was that experience?
  • What kind of teaching would you like to do in the future?
  • Who was your favorite teacher and/or favorite language teacher?  Why?
  • Were they also your most effective teachers?
  • Who was your least favorite teacher/language teacher? Why?
  • What has made the most significant impact on your English speaking abilities? (Inside or outside of a classroom, in Korea or overseas)
    What have been you most useless, frustrating language learning experiences?


Different Theoretic Foundations
  • Can you think of examples of how you have acquired a second language in accordance with these different theories?
  • What were the advantages and disadvantages of the different approaches?

Krashen’s Theories
  • Can you think of examples of when you have 'learned' language but not ‘acquired’ it?

  • How comprehensible was this video?
  • Can you think of types of second language learning input that have been comprehensible or not?
  • What are examples engaging ‘i+1’ input for you?
  • Can you think of times that you have experienced ‘i+10’ input?

  • When has an affective filter had an impact on your language production?
  • What language production environments have been low-anxiety or high-anxiety for you?
